Fox Announces Dates for "Apes" Sequel, New "X-Men" Movie, "Independence Day" 3D, and New Animated Film, Disney Re-Schedules "Thor 2" and "Lone Ranger"

Lots of scheduling changes have been made over the last week, with 20th Century Fox doing the most moves and additions...

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has been scheduled for May 23, 2014, nearly three years after Rise of the Planet of the Apes earned a huge $175 million domestically and $350 million worldwide.  No news whether or not James Franco or other cast and crew is returning.

A new, currently untitled X-Men movie, is scheduled for July 18, 2014.  It will be a sequel to X-Men: First Class, which earned a respectable $155 million last summer, and $355 million worldwide.

Independence Day 3D has been scheduled for July 3, 2013.  That marks the fourth 3D re-release set for 2013, after Monsters Inc. and Jurassic Park and coming before The Little Mermaid's re-release.  In its' initial run, the sci-fi blockbuster earned over $300 million domestically and $800 million worldwide.  The film will be competing against animated sequel Despicable Me 2 over the 4th of July weekend.

Other announcements include Ben Stiller starring and directing in The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, scheduled to come out on Christmas Day, 2013 and a currently untitled comedy starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, out on April 5, 2013.  A couple of movies were relocated to new dates, Percy Jackson & The Sea of Monsters was moved to August 16, 2013, and Walking With Dinosaurs 3D was moved to December 20, 2013.

Disney has moved up Thor 2 one week to November 8, 2013, where it will compete against DreamWorks' Animation's Me and My Shadow.  Disney also pushed its' adaptation of The Lone Ranger to July 3, 2013, where it should be a crowded 4th of July weekend, competing against Despicable Me 2 and the newly-announced release of Independence Day 3D.  Also, Steven Spielberg project Robopocalypse has been pushed to April 25, 2014 instead of being released on July 3 (who would want to compete against those three?).

In other minor announcements, Sony has scheduled One Direction Concert Movie for November 8, 2013, and last week, Paramount announced that G.I. Joe: Retaliation would be pushed to March 29, 2013 in favor of a 3D post-conversion.  In response to that, Universal moved up the comedy Ted to June 29 instead of July 13.
