With $6.3 million on Wednesday, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey remained comfortably in first place. Through its first six days, the movie has earned $106.5 million, somewhat below expectations. At this pace, Hobbit is on pace for close to $60 million for the five-day pre-Christmas period.
Debuting in a very distant second, Barbara Streisand and Seth Rogen's The Guilt Trip got off to a predictably slow start, with just $1 million. With its' target audience busy with last-minute Christmas shopping, it would make sense why its' gross is low. For its first five days, Guilt Trip is expected to gross in the $7-8 million range.
Lincoln came in third with another $825,000, with its gross passing $110 million in the process. Skyfall and Rise of the Guardians are in fifth and sixth with $725,000 and $619,000.
Debuting in fourth place on Wednesday was Disney/Pixar's re-release of Monsters, Inc., which got off to a mediocre start, earning $778,000. That isn't shockingly bad though, especially when majority of kids don't let out of school until Friday, and traffic should pick up significantly. Still though, according to tracking, its' hard to imagine the re-release earning north of $10 million for its' first five days...
