Weekend Box Office Report: April 23-25, 2021

--Mortal Kombat opened on top with a strong $22.5 million (solid $7,326 per-theater average), making it the second-biggest opening of the pandemic era behind Godzilla VS. Kong. It's also earned another $28 million overseas for a $50 million worldwide gross so far. Of course, keep in mind this debuted simultaneously on HBOMax as well.

--Perhaps even more impressive was the close second place launch of anime import Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train, which opened to a great $19.5 million from 1,600 locations (pandemic-best $12,213 per-venue average). That's the biggest debut ever stateside for a foreign language film, and already ranks as the seventh-biggest anime release ever.

--Godzilla VS. Kong was down 47% in its fourth frame to $4.2 million, for a $86.6 million pick-up in 26 days. While I think now it will be a long shot for it to hit $100 million stateside, it's still doing pretty impressively given the circumstances. It also passed $400 million worldwide.

--Nobody continued to hold well, off 26% to $1.9 million. The Bob Odenkirk thriller has pulled in $21.7 million since its release one month ago, on its way to $25 million on more.

--Raya and the Last Dragon was off just 13% in its eighth weekend to $1.7 million, for a $39.8 million pick-up in 56 days. It's at $110 million worldwide so far.

As for the rest of the Top 10:
