Its' been a while since I've done entertainment news, here is some of the latest...
It was announced a couple of days ago that The Muppets would be getting a sequel. According to resources, Disney has made a deal with director James Bobin and co-writer Nicholas Stoller to make a follow-up film. Unfortunately though, Jason Segel, who co-wrote, executive produced, and starred in the film, won't be returning due to focusing on more human-related projects. It is yet to be confirmed if Amy Adams will be returning in the sequel, and there also has yet to be a release date announced, though it may be targeted for sometime in 2014. The Muppets earned nearly $90 million stateside and over $150 million worldwide, which was the biggest-grossing film in the franchise. The film also gave the franchise its' first Oscar for Best Original Song.
It was also confirmed today that a third Journey was moving forward for a release sometime in 2014. Director Brad Peyton is set to return, though the cast hasn't been confirmed to come back as of yet. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island had a cliff-hanger ending about the possibility of the characters going to the moon, which may be the premise. Journey 2 is well-positioned to match the original Journey To The Center of the Earth's $102 million finish, as well as $300 million worldwide.
Actress Kristen Bell has been confirmed to be the lead voice for Disney's next fairy tale adaptation, Frozen (modern update of The Snow Queen). There will be songs, but its' unknown if Alan Menken will return to score the film, and the computer-animated 3D film is scheduled for Thanksgiving 2013.
In other news, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs got its' currently-in production sequel a title, Cloudy 2: Revenge of the Leftovers, which has yet to get a release date but might come out in 2013 as Sony Pictures Animation currently only has The Smurfs 2 slated for that year.
