Weekly Box Office for February 3-9, 2012

Chronicle picked up business a bit over the week, as it earned $27.9 million over its' first seven days following its' $22 million weekend.  The found footage flick is performing way above expectations and is the fifth consecutive #1 opener to earn more than $25 million in its' first full week.  Holding well in the weeks to come isn't quite on the agenda.

The Woman in Black also showed that it could do strong business, with a solid second place showing, earning $25.2 million over its' first seven days, following its' $20.9 million opening.  Business held steady over the week, but the film is also performing way above expectations.  Horror films are typically front-loaded, so don't expect this to see a strong hold either.

Liam Neeson's The Grey held decently in third with a 51% week-to-week drop to $12.5 million following its' $9.3 million second weekend and has earned a good $37.7 million in 14 days.  The thriller will fall further down the Top 10 this week.

The other new release, family drama Big Miracle stumbled out of the gate in fourth place, with $9.3 million over its' first seven days, following its' $7.8 million weekend.  Family films do tend to see slow business over the week, and its' going to be tough for it to hold well with more competition in theaters this weekend.

Horror fourquel Underworld: Awakening rounded out the Top 10 in its' third full week, dropping 52% to $7.7 million, for a $56.4 million tally in 21 days.  This will likely fall from the Top 10 this week, but its' further separating itself from Evolution through the same point.

One for the Money ($7 million, -52%), Red Tails ($6.33 million, -51%), The Descendants ($6.3 million, -27%), Man on a Ledge ($5.9 million, -43%), and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close ($5.1 million, -43%) round out the Top 10.
