As March continues to turn the 2019's box office fortunes around, more interesting titles join the fray. Based on this week's predictions, overall business should be ahead of last year, which was led by the $28 million launch of Pacific Rim: Uprising.
Here's the predicted Top 10:
#1: Us ($52 million)
Jordan Peele seems to be the hot name in Hollywood right now. Not only did he score a massive hit two years ago with Get Out, the film also became a Best Picture nominee at the Oscar. Overall, audiences are hungry for his next film. And distributor Universal was wise to have the film premiere recently at the buzzy SXSW, as it got critics and audience word-of-mouth starting to spread. Overall advance business has been huge too. Being an R-rated film, it might not break out on the level of A Quiet Place, but it still seems set for a huge debut.
#2: Captain Marvel ($35 million, -49%)
Marvel's new leading lady looks to continue a typical front-loaded(ish) run for a superhero flick. However, it will pass $300 million stateside this weekend.
#3: Wonder Park ($10.5 million, -34%)
Paramount is hoping for legs. At least for this weekend, with no competition for families, they should get a strong hold here.
#4: Five Feet Apart ($9 million, -32%)
With a rare "A+" CinemaScore, this one seems like it could be a repeat option for date night crowds. With no added competition for that crowd, this should have a strong hold.
#5: How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World ($6.5 million, -30%)
No added competition for families again should allow this franchise finale to have another strong hold.
#6: A Madea Family Funeral ($4.5 million, -42%)
There's also a refreshing lack of comedies in the marketplace right now. That spells good news once again for Tyler Perry's last laugh as Madea.
#7: No Manches Frida 2 ($2.5 million, -34%)
This sequel should find itself with a solid hold, especially with no comedy competition.
#8: Captive State ($1.5 million, -53%)
With no buzz or strong word-of-mouth, this one looks to fade quickly.
#9: The LEGO Movie 2 ($1.4 million, -35%)
Same reason as #3 and #5, a lack of any real competition for families will really help this one as it has one last hurrah in the Top 10.
#10: Alita: Battle Angel ($1.2 million, -37%)
With only one new nationwide release, it means Alita should have a solid enough hold to remain in the Top 10 one more week.
