Weekend Box Office Predictions for October 26-28, 2018.

I took this past Sunday off from writing my blog (it was my birthday), which explains why there wasn't a post. For this predictions post, I'm going to be keeping the post shorter than usual, partially because its' not a very eventful weekend. All the new openers are not expected to make much of an impact. However, thanks to the combined strength of the Top 3 holdovers, overall business should be ahead of last year, which was topped by horror flick Jigsaw ($16.6 million).

As for the new releases, the movie with the best chance is crime thriller Hunter Killer. Yes, that's how original movie titles get these days (lol). The film has a B-level cast, but buzz has been lacking. The Lionsgate release will likely chalk up around $7-8 million in its debut, which should be enough to challenge Goosebumps 2 for fourth place.

The other new releases may not crack the Top 10 at all. Pure Flix is releasing their military faith-based flick Indivisible in around 800 locations, and has gotten better-than-normal buzz for a semi-wide release. I'm thinking maybe a $2.5-$3 million debut could get it into the Top 10. But it could underperform. Meanwhile, Universal is releasing Rowan Atkinson in Johnny English Strikes Back at around 500 locations. I would look for a debut in the $2 million range outside the Top 10. Also, I will be keep an eye on the indie flick Mid90's, which could expand into the $2 million range based on its strong limited results last weekend.

Meanwhile, after its' huge $76 million debut last week, Halloween should come back down to earth a bit this weekend, though it should still hold better than normal for a horror flick thanks to the titular holiday drawing closer. A Star is Born and Venom should remain strong draws, while Goosebumps 2 and Smallfoot will continue being the top choices for family crowds (before the holiday season starts next week).

Here is the projected Top 10:

#1: Halloween ($34 million, -55%)
#2: A Star is Born ($13 million, -32%)
#3: Venom ($10.5 million, -42%)
#4: Hunter Killer ($7.5 million)
#5: Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween ($7 million, -28%)
#6: First Man ($5.5 million, -34%)
#7: The Hate U Give ($5 million, -34%)
#8: Smallfoot ($4.5 million, -32%)
#9: Night School ($3.5 million, -29%)
#10: Indivisible ($2.5 million)
