Its' going to be close, as Pixar's second movie of 2015 The Good Dinosaur finally arrives. Look for strong numbers, even if reviews haven't been fantastic so far (still 87% on Rotten Tomatoes). At this point, I would lean closer to Tangled than Frozen for comparisons (great, but not spectacular reception from critics). Dinosaur will likely be neck-and-neck or it may easily top last week's winner.
Creed is benefiting from strong reviews (94% on Rotten Tomatoes) and even some light awards season buzz. The film got off to a near record-breaking start last night, do not be surprised if it racks up serious attention this weekend. Meanwhile, Victor Frankenstein is on the opposite end of the spectrum. It has had hardly any buzz and a light marketing push. Daniel Radcliffe does have an audience, but this one will likely be ignored by many audiences, especially with harsh reviews (10% on Rotten Tomatoes). In fact, I might be a little too generous with predictions.
Holdovers should all fare well with Thanksgiving on the horizon, though the nationwide expansion of possible awards contender Brooklyn could definitely make some noise (as could Spotlight). Mockingjay may or may not hold well, dependent on word-of-mouth. Meanwhile, The Peanuts Movie is having stronger early week business than MegaMind through the same point (which earned $17.5 million over the 5-day Thanksgiving weekend), and Spectre should remain in the mix as well.
One movie to keep an eye on is The Night Before, which may benefit from being a Christmas title. The Secret in Their Eyes and Love the Coopers will attempt to make up lost ground with older audiences, while The Martian will try to blast to an eighth-straight week in the Top 10. It should remain a solid draw, regardless.
First update for the weekend to be posted tomorrow afternoon.
