Friday Box Office Report: "Cinderella" Pulls in Strong $23 Million...

Overall business will be ahead of this same weekend last year.

Cinderella, as expected, continued Disney's strong streak, pulling in a strong $23 million. That's in line with Maleficent and Oz: The Great and Powerful, which pulled in $24 million apiece. However, it should be noted both of those movies had 3D surcharges, so that makes Cinderella's non-3D grosses more impressive. Look for family audiences to fuel the movie on Saturday and Sunday. If it follows Oz's trajectory (3.3), it will end up at $76 million for the weekend, ahead of Maleficent's $69 million debut from last May.

Run All Night, meanwhile, disappointed (considering the strong marketing effort). The Liam Neeson flick pulled in just $3.8 million on Friday in a very distant second place. That's even less than A Walk Among the Tombstones, which pulled in $4.8 million last Fall on its way to a $13 million weekend. A similar trajectory will give Run All Night a weekend just over $10 million.

Meanwhile, Kingsman: The Secret Service and The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel are holding strong and both are expected to finish the weekend around $6 million. Focus, while not holding quite as strong as the other two, is also expected to take in around $6 million for the weekend. Last weekend's winner, Chappie, on the other hand, will fall from first to sixth place with a 60+% decline to around $5 million for the weekend.
