Overall box office will still be far from last-year's record-breaking frame though...
Ice Age: Continental Drift took the top spot, as expected, with an estimated $16.5 million on Friday. That was in line with Dawn of the Dinosaurs $17.2 million opening Friday, which would lead to a $41.7 million weekend (but that was after a mid-week opening, so its' demand was burned off). In terms of recent animated openings, it was short of Despicable Me and Madagascar 3's $20 million opening Fridays. Depsite mixed-to-negative critical reception, the film did earn a promising "A-" CinemaScore. With a kiddie bump certain to happen today, Ice Age is certain to at least match my $48 million prediction.
The Amazing Spider-Man was down 51% from last Friday to an estimated $10.3 million, which is actually a pretty good hold for a superhero movie. Expect around $33 million for its' sophomore frame. Ted was down only 31% from last Friday to an estimated $6.9 million, in what should be a $21 million third weekend. Rounding out the Top 5 were Magic Mike and Brave, with estimates of $3.4 million and $3.3 million, but expect Pixar's latest to take fourth place for the weekend with close to $12 million, while the stripper film should get around $9.5 million for the weekend.
Weekend estimates coming tomorrow afternoon...
