Weekend Box Office Report: June 4-6, 2021

--Despite availability on HBOMax, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It opened to a very good $24 million in first place this weekend ($7,740 per-venue average) as the box office recovery continues. While it is among the weakest starts for an entry in the Conjuring/Annabelle franchise, the comparison isn't apples-to-apples given not all theaters are open and the digital component. The film opened ahead of the $15-20 million expected, and also picked up a very solid $33 million overseas, for a $57 million worldwide launch.

--A Quiet Place: Part 2 did take a hit from another scarefest, off 59% to $19.5 million. However, the sequel continues to do strongly, with $88.6 million in 10 days and $139 million worldwide with still quite a bit left to go. It didn't hold nearly as well as its predecessor, but that's to be expected for sequels.

--Cruella was off 48% in its second weekend to $11.2 million, for a decent $43.7 million gross in 10 days. Despite being available on Disney+ for $30, the super-villain origin story is still pulling in business theatrically. It's at $87 million worldwide so far.

--DreamWorks Animation returned to theaters this weekend with Spirit Untamed, which opened to a meh $6.2 million in its debut ($1,930 per-venue average). That's in line with the $5-7 million forecasted, though the spin-off of the 2002 cult classic was never expected to be a major hit. It did earn an "A" CinemaScore, so it might be set to hold well (that's if Peter Rabbit 2 doesn't have anything to say about it next week!).

--Speaking of animated films, Raya and the Last Dragon rounded out the Top 5 again in its 14th weekend. Now available to stream for all subscribers on Disney+, the animated leggy hit was off 44% to $1.3 million, for a solid $53.5 million pick-up so far. It's also at $120 million worldwide.

Here's how the rest of the Top 10 fared:
-Wrath of Man was down 41% to $1.275 million, for a $24.7 million pick-up in five weeks of release (and over $80 million worldwide).
-Spiral was down 60% to $890,000 (it is now available on PVOD), for a $21.8 million gross in 24 days.
-Godzilla VS. Kong was off 48% to $463,000, for a $99.1 million gross in 10 weeks.
-Demon Slayer: Mugen Train was off 45% to $458,000, for a $47.2 million gross in seven weeks.
-Dream Horse was off 64% to $230,000, for a $2.3 million gross in 17 days.
