--It was a strong rebound of a weekend as audiences rallied behind A Quiet Place 2, which managed a strong $47.4 million three-day start, and $57 million including Memorial Day Monday (strong $15,297 per-venue average). That is in line with the first Quiet Place's $50 million 3-day launch back in 2018, and that's with capacity restrictions still in play. With no digital or streaming component (Paramount is giving it a 45-day theatrical window), audiences clearly responded strongly here. How it plays in the weeks ahead is unknown, but there's a lot of enthusiasm here for the overall marketplace with this performance. Quiet Place earned $22 million overseas this weekend for a $79 million worldwide launch.
--As for Cruella, the Disney villain origin story fared pretty well despite being available on Disney+ for $30. It earned $21.3 million in three days and $26.5 million in four ($6,808 per-venue average). Expectations were all over the place as no one knew how it would fare with the Disney+ component. However, it did earn nearly three times what Raya and the Last Dragon did on its opening weekend with the same guidelines ($8.5 million start). Cruella earned $16 million overseas this weekend for a $43 million worldwide launch.
--Spiral took a distant third and did take a bit of a hit from the competition. The Saw franchise's latest was down 52% in its third weekend to $2.2 million ($2.8 million including Monday), for a $20.3 million pick-up in 18 days. It is on track for $25 million stateside.
--Wrath of Man slotted in fourth place in its' fourth frame, off 28% to $2.1 million ($2.76 million including Monday), for a $22.8 million gross in 24 days. However, the Jason Statham thriller continues to do solid overseas, where it just passed $80 million worldwide.
--Thanks to drive-in double features with Cruella, Raya and the Last Dragon found itself in the Top 5 again for a 13th-straight weekend. Increasing 26% to $2.1 million (and need I remind people it's also now available on DVD and Blu-ray?!!), it picked up $2.755 million over the extended weekend. The leggy hit from Disney animation is at $51.6 million stateside so far, and $130 million worldwide.
