-Thanks in part to 37% of Los Angeles-area theaters reopening this weekend, many films held well. Holding first place in its third weekend, Raya and the Last Dragon was off just 10% from last week to $5.1 million. Disney Animation's critically-acclaimed latest is holding well with a $23.4 million pick-up in 17 days. It has also earned $71 million worldwide. With more theaters reopening, the film should continue to hold well.
-Tom and Jerry also had a nice hold, off 7% to $3.8 million, for a very good $33.7 million pick-up in 24 days. The family film has one more week of availability on HBOMax before switching to an exclusive theatrical run, and will continue benefiting from no family films in the marketplace.
-Opening in third place was historical drama The Courier, which earned $2 million ($1,404 per-venue average), in line with expectations. The Benedict Cumberbatch movie received solid reviews.
-Chaos Walking held well in its third weekend, off just 14% to $1.9 million, for a $9.7 million pick-up in 17 days. The pricey sci-fi flick should wind up around $15 million.
-Making the Top 5 for a 17th(!) straight week was The Croods: A New Age. Thanks to more theaters opening, the film actually increased 15% to $620,000. The animated sequel is at $55.2 million stateside, closing the gap to just $3 million between it and TENET. It is also at $160 million worldwide.
Elsewhere in the Top 10:
-Boogie off 23% in its third weekend to $600,000, for a $3.3 million pick-up in 17 days.
-The Marksman was up 6% to $480,000, for a $14.3 million pick-up in 10 weeks of release.
-Wonder Woman 1984 was up 15% to $460,000, for a $45.6 million gross in 13 weeks of release.
-The Little Things was down 15% to $340,000, for a $14.7 million pick-up in eight weeks.
-The Father was down 26% to $321,000, for a gross just shy of $1 million in four weeks.
