-The Little Things dropped 55% in its sophomore frame to $2.1 million, but that was easily enough to still stay #1 in a pandemic-ridden box office (45% of theaters are open right now). However, with the Super Bowl attracting its' intended audience (older males), this kind of drop is more understandable given the timing. Denzel Washington (and Golden Globe/SAG nominee Jared Leto) have pulled in $7.8 million in 10 days, in line with Honest Thief through the same point. It should stabilize next week.
-Once again, The Croods: A New Age continues to play strongly with families. Off just 3% to $1.75 million, it is at $46 million in 11 weeks of release. It is also approaching $150 million worldwide with markets still yet to open. The film still has two more weekends before Tom and Jerry opens stateside, so there is a strong chance this gets above $50 million domestically. That would be only the second film (after TENET) to get past that mark since COVID started. (And need I remind people, its' been available on PVOD since mid-December?!!)
-Even though its U.S. theatrical release was cancelled, Pixar's Soul is about to pass $100 million overseas, including near $60 million in China. That makes it Pixar's second-biggest movie ever in the market behind only Coco.
-The Marksman continues to play close to in line with other pandemic releases, off 20% to $1 million, for a $9.1 million pick-up in four weeks.
-Wonder Woman 1984 was off 30% to $900,000, as it passes $40 million in seven weeks of release. This will probably end its run right before $45 million. And at $155 million worldwide, it's clear that this big financial gamble during the pandemic didn't quite work out for Warner Bros.
As for the rest of the Top 10...
-Monster Hunter continues to leg it out. Down 20% to $585,000 ($11.9 million in eight weeks, might reach $15 million).
-News of the World off 26% to $400,000, $10.9 million gross in seven weeks.
-Promising Young Woman slides just 17% (fresh off Golden Globe and SAG nominations) to $220,000, for a $4.7 million pick-up in seven weeks.
-Fatale drops 22% to $170,000, as the Lionsgate thriller has pulled in $5.8 million in eight weeks.
-The War with Grandpa in the Top 10 again in its' 18th weeks. And it increased 18%! It earned $167,000 for a $19.8 million gross so far. It's going to pass $20 million in the next two weekends.
-A re-release of Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring reached the Top 10, earning $166,000 from 150 locations, enough for a per-venue average north of $1,000 (a hard to reach average for most re-releases).
