Friday Box Office Report: "Spider-Man" Spins Large Numbers, "Ted" Holds On Strong, "Savages" Beats "Katy Perry 3D"....

Overall box office is getting a major boost from last year...

The Amazing Spider-Man tallied an estimated $20.7 million on Friday, up an impressive 32% from Thursday.  Comparing it to past mid-week openers, that is actually a much higher uptick than what Transformers did on its' first Friday.  The reboot has picked up $95.7 million in just four days of release, and will pass the $100 million milestone today.  Critical reviews have been positive, while audiences clearly liked it, giving it an "A-" CinemaScore.  Expect a $61 million weekend result.

Following its' huge opening last weekend, Ted dropped 47% from last Friday to an estimated $10.5 million. That is actually a pretty strong hold, and it looks like the R-rated comedy will earn about $33 million this weekend, down just 40% from last weekend.

Brave held on to the third spot, and somewhat stabilized from last weekend's huge drop, down 40% from last Friday to an estimated $6.2 million.  Pixar's latest is performing in line with Madagascar 3, but its' not getting the kind of holds it needs to prove there is positive word-of-mouth going for it.  The animated hit should still see around $21 million for the weekend, down 38% from last weekend.

After its' big opening weekend, Magic Mike dropped hard.  Plummeting 69% to an estimated $6.2 million, the stripper comedy will likely eke out about $17 million for the weekend.

Debuting in fifth place with better than expected results is R-rated action thriller Savages, which earned an estimated $5.7 million.  Despite good reviews from critics, the ensemble film earned a discouraging "C+" grade from CinemaScore, which doesn't bode well for legs.  A $15 million weekend looks to be in store.

Faring even worse was 3D concert film Katy Perry: Part of Me, which ended up in seventh place on Friday with just an estimated $2.7 million, far below expectations.  Since its' Thursday opening, the film has earned $5.8 million and did earn a promising "A" CinemaScore.  Right now, $8 million looks about right for the weekend, with $11 million over the four-day period.

Weekend estimates coming tomorrow afternoon...
