Box office will plummet from last year, in the calm before The Avengers storm (the potential blockbuster has already earned $73 million in three days overseas).
Dropping 57% from last Friday, Think Like A Man remained strong at the box office, with an estimated $5.5 million, which is more than enough to hold on to the top spot for a second-straight weekend. Based on word-of-mouth, the film is headed for a $17.5 million weekend.
Also dropping 57% from last Friday, The Lucky One earned an estimated $3.9 million. The Zac Efron romantic drama is in line for a $12 million second weekend, where it will be in the middle of a four-way battle for second place.
Debuting in third place on Friday, Judd Apatow's romantic comedy The Five-Year Engagement underperformed, with just an estimated $3.5 million on opening day. A lot of analysts were hoping that the Jason Segel and Emily Blunt-starring flick would get at least $20 million, now it looks like the film will probably have to deal with an $11 million weekend, less than half of Bridesmaids and two-thirds of Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
The Hunger Games slid just one spot to fourth with just a 25% dip to an estimated $3 million, in what should be a $10 million seventh weekend, down just 25% from last weekend.
Rounding out the Top 5 on Friday was The Pirates! Band of Misfits, which debuted with mediocre results, an estimated $2.75 million. The 3D animated flick should get a bump on Saturday, and earn around $10.5 million for the weekend.
The other two new releases, Safe and The Raven tied for sixth place with estimates of $2.5 million each, and both should reach $7 million for the weekend.
Weekend estimates to be posted tomorrow evening...
