After being in second place last weekend, Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds' action thriller Safe House jumped into the top spot and held very well for its' genre, easing 40% week-to-week to $32.4 million, and boosting its' tally to a solid $86.7 million in 14 days. Even though there's more competition this weekend, the film is still set to pass the $100 million mark within the next few days.
Even though it dropped to second, The Vow still held its' own with a 50% week-to-week drop to $31.1 million, for a stronger 14-day tally of $93 million. The romance drama is expected to pass the $100 million mark this weekend, but its' holding chances aren't very good due to competition from Wanderlust.
Family sequel Journey 2: The Mysterious Island held onto the third spot with just a 9% week-to-week decrease to $30.1 million, for a solid 14-day total of $63.3 million. With no competition, the film is largely expected to hold well this weekend.
Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance crashed and burned, with just $29 million on its' first seven days, or less than half of its' predecessor's $63 million first week and much lower than expectations. With a discouraging "C+" CinemaScore grade, the film will most likely drop hard this weekend.
This Means War rounded out the Top 5 with $23.5 million in its' first seven days (and $25.1 million since its' Valentine's Day sneak previews). The romance action comedy has been performing at the high-end of expectations, and with good audience reception so far ("A-" CinemaScore grade), the film should be in for a better-than-average hold this frame, unless if Wanderlust affects it this weekend.
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (3D) ($11.4 million, -56%), Chronicle ($10.8 million, -31%), The Secret World of Arrietty ($10.2 million seven-day start), The Woman in Black ($9.1 million, -32%), and The Grey ($4.5 million, -37%) round out the Top 10.
