2012 Preview: Part V: The Projected Top 10 Highest-Grossing Movies of 2012

We've come to the end of the 2012 preview, but its' time for some long-distance forecasting.  Here's what I think 2012's Top 10 will look like:

#1: The Dark Knight Rises ($480 million domestic, $800+ million worldwide)

Certainly the years' biggest-anticipated movie, and a guaranteed $800 million plus earner worldwide...

#2: The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II ($365 million domestic, $800 million worldwide)

It does have a shot at $1 billion, and the final book will obviously be the biggest-grossing one...

#3: The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey ($330 million domestic, $700+ million worldwide)

It may not live up to Lord of the Rings, because of its' prequel/reboot status, but it's certainly going to be a blockbuster because of its' intense fanbase alone.  Biggest-grossing original movie this year.

#4: Ice Age: Continental Drift ($180 million domestic, $700+ million worldwide)

While its' domestic numbers may fall short of its' predecessor, this series of movies are extremely popular internationally, which will result in blockbuster status...

#5: The Avengers ($300+ million domestic, $700+ million worldwide)

Bringing together all the superheroes is definitely going to result in Iron Man 2-like numbers, perhaps higher...

#6: The Amazing Spider Man ($150+ million domestic, $600+ million worldwide)

Acting as a prequel/reboot won't help it to get to the heights of the first three movies, but it should be able to do nicely overseas...

#7: Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted ($150+ million domestic, $550+ million worldwide)

It might fall short of its' predecessor stateside, but the Madagascar characters are also popular internationally, which will be enough to possibly guarantee a fourth film...

#8: Skyfall ($180+ million domestic, $500+ million worldwide)

The last James Bond movie saw over $500 million worldwide, similar numbers here are certainly within reach.

#9: Brave ($180+ million domestic, $500+ million worldwide)

Even if it comes in at the low-end of Pixar films, it still is going to see strong numbers internationally....

#10: Wrath of the Titans ($140+ million domestic, $400+ million worldwide)

While it might not live up to its' predecessor domestically, it has basically no competition overseas at the time of its' release, which could set itself up for a huge improvement on its' predecessor on that front...

Other movies that could break the Top 10:
Dr. Suess' The Lorax
Titanic 3D
The Hunger Games
Django Unchained
Rise of the Guardians
