As usual, on Thanksgiving day, the films of the weekend usually take a dive...
Following its' $12.3 million Wednesday, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part I dropped 36% from last Friday to an estimated $7.8 million, and bringing its' two-day total to $19.9 million. With people out in force today, Friday's gross could be as high as $17 million, so the 5-day holiday estimate has been lowered a bit to $62 million.
The Muppets held the best over Wednesday-Thursday, easing 11% to an estimated $5.9 million after its' $6.6 million Wednesday, and bringing its' two-day total to $12.5 million. Thats' a bit behind Enchanted through the same point, and its' all going to depend on how big that Friday bump is going to be. But right now, Friday's gross will likely be at least $12 million, and the 5-day estimate is still looking to be at around $43 million.
The biggest story though was how well Hugo did on Thursday. It jumped up 40% to an estimated $2.3 million and bringing its' two-day total to $4 million. The film should see a nice bump to around $5 million on Friday and finish the 5-day frame with $14.5 million, up from yesterdays' projections.
Happy Feet Two dropped 30% from Wednesday to an estimated $2.1 million, for a $4.9 million tally in two days. Friday's gross should perk up to around $6 million, though the 5-day estimate has been lowered to about $19.5 million.
Arthur Christmas eased 23% from Wednesday to Thursday, earning an additional estimated $1.9 million and bringing its' two-day total to $4.2 million. Look for the holiday caper to jump up to $6 million on Friday as well and a 5-day weekend of $19 million (lowered from yesterday).
Jack & Jill held well in sixth place with an estimated $1.8 million, down just 5% from Wednesday, and is looking for a $14 million 5-day. Immortals jumped up a slight 11% on Thanksgiving Day to $1.8 million, and is more aiming for $12 million. Puss in Boots eased 28% to an estimated $1.3 million, and should see at least a $3.5 million Friday and around $11 million for the 5-day holiday.
Tower Heist and The Descendants both went up slightly to estimates of $1.5 million and $1.1 million and are sticking to their trajectories of $8.5 million and $7 million for the 5-day weekend.
